Touggourt is a town located northwest of the wilaya of Ouargla and south of Biskra about 600 km southeast of Algiers, it is served by a national airport, a railway station and a bus station which connects it to other cities in the country.

Touggourt has nearly two million date palms, irrigation has always been done by artesian wells, it is surrounded by beautiful and vast palm groves.

The main streets are adorned with arcades. On the large central square stands a monument commemorating the journey by automobile through the desert of the Citroën mission of Haardt and Audouin-Dubreuil in 1922.
